April's Bloody Start

Make that five: Richmond Police investigate four homicides -- and one suicide -- in the span of two days.

April has kicked off a warming trend, and an unfortunate uptick in homicides. At 11:30 Friday morning, Tarchelle Nicole Daniel suffered multiple gunshot wounds while sitting in a car behind an apartment complex in the 1200 block of Lakeview Avenue in the Randolph community. She died later at VCU Medical Center.

Later Friday, the alleged gunman killed a bystander, Charles Jackson, 56, while being pursued by Richmond Police. The gunman, Alvin Pleasants, 45, then turned his gun on himself and committed suicide around 5:30 p.m., according to police reports.

The two homicides Friday, and the suicide, followed two additional killings on Thursday. Tyree Jerard Jefferson Jr., 39, was shot to death in Oakwood Cemetery, off Nine Mile Road, Thursday morning. Less than three hours later Devin L. Morse, 26, was found shot to death in a parking lot in the 1800 block of Creighton Road. Police say the shootings don't appear to be related.
