Composed of classically trained cellists, Helsinki, Finland-based Apocalyptica has spent close to two decades bringing a bizarrely beautiful sophistication to one of popular music's most menacing genres: heavy metal. Scoring an audience among classicists and headbangers alike with its first record, an album made up entirely of Metallica covers, Apocalyptica since has recorded numerous works of original material, collaborating with the likes of Slayer's drummer, Dave Lombardo, Rammstein vocalist Till Lindemann, and ex-Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale. On the road behind its latest full-length, “7th Symphony,” Apocalyptica is scheduled to perform at the National on Friday, March 18, at 7 p.m. $18-$22.
