Annuals at Brown's Island

For those completely unfamiliar with the Raleigh, N.C.,-based the Annuals, here's a little factoid: The cover art of the group's sophomore album, “Some Fun,” is a painting by the late Bob Ross, the soft-spoken, big-haired landscape artist whose TV painting series was a fixture on PBS. The tranquility of the image, of course, is completely contrary to what wunderkind Adam Baker and his supporting cast of players present in their shape-shifting, orchestral compositions. Like some idiot-savant cousin of the Arcade Fire, these chaos creationists play with Horsehead at Riverrock on Brown's Island Saturday, May 16, at 2:45 p.m. Free. 285-9495. — Mike Hilleary
