What Richmond's new FourSquare badge looks like.

Tourism boosters and local FourSquare fans won a contest earlier this month, giving the city its own badge that can be won by users of the location-based game.

FourSquare, which is played on smart phones, is a location-based scavenger hunt of sorts, crossed with a self-reporting tracking service where users "check in" to places and complete tasks to earn points.

Now users who check off enough to-do's in Richmond will earn a virtual badge. Its design was unveiled at the State Capitol today by Kira Siddall of Siddall, Inc. and Chad Williams of Creative Visual Design, with officials Gov. Bob McDonnell and Jack Berry of the Richmond Metropolitan Convention & Visitors Bureau.

And sorry, VCU Rams fans, this one's red-and-blue University of Richmond colors all the way.
