There's a sense of reserved control in the effect-based beats of Colorado-based DJ Alex Botwin. Unlike some console mixing musical artists, his juxtaposition of lyricless sequences never feels abrasive, but exhibits a soothing, interstellar danceability. Synthesizing fluttering, syncopated rhythms within digestible three-minute bursts of atmospheric electronica and trip-hop, Alex B's down-tempo textures and jazzlike craftsmanship comes through on his recently released full-length, “Moments.” Before playing a series of shows with indie soul-groove experimenter Jamie Lidell, Alex B is scheduled to perform at the Canal Club on Saturday, May 22, at 9 p.m. $10-$15.
