After several months of inactivity, Mikemetic Kemetic is back to make people dance with his Afro Beta dance party Saturday, Jan. 3, at Emilio’s. The DJ, culture pusher and former bassist for Richmond soul hip-hoppers the Photosynthesizers spins an eclectic, user-friendly mix of house, Afrobeat and other up-tempo global audio vibrations with live percussion to compliment them. The night was a big hit at the Nile Café before the brothers Teklemariam closed their restaurant and moved the kitchen to Portrait House in July. Mikemetic is testing the waters to see if his global a-go-go has found a new home for 2015. I certainly hope he has, because Afro Beta is not only one of the best DJ dance nights in the city, but also gives you something you’ve never heard before. The adults-only, cross-cultural booty-shaking begins at 10:30 p.m. Free. emiliosrva.net.
