A Package Deal

Typical is one thing that Sarah Borges' music is not. A listen to her latest CD, "Diamonds in the Dark," reveals a curious mix of classic country and old-school alt-rock. From the foot-tapping, country-style romanticism of "The Day We Met" to the '80s girl-punk sound of "Stop and Think It Over," Borges says her musical influences have always landed across the board -- a good explanation for why her style can't be neatly and easily boxed. Don't expect a country medley infused with sickeningly sweet love songs. Labels don't seem to stick to her music package. Borges and the Broken Singles come to Ashland Coffee & Tea Saturday, March 1, at 8 p.m. $20-$25. 798-1702.
