It's the accredidation insititutions like SAACS that set the standards for the ciricullum and all those required gen ed courses. If the college or university doesn't, in some way, make the students take such courses, the students will not graduate and the colleges will lose accredication and all their federal and state money, as well as the ablity to run graduate programs.

I pretty had the same experience CJA. Did horribly in my gen ed courses out of boredom, then hovered around a 3.0 once i got into my relevant business courses.

I was also miserable taking gen ed classes. Part of the problem is the SSACS standards that force all students in any ciricullum and at any level of study to take such classes.

"But for far too many students, the difficulty begins with their choice of a university that doesn't provide a straightforward, four-year track to graduation because of poor scheduling, inadequate counseling or sheer neglect." Yes, yes, yes -- when I was at VCU (recently), I almost had to lollygag for an extra two semesters because they didn't offer the last class I needed to graduate during the semester I needed it.

The other lie, myth or whatever you want to call it is that the price of college is worth it.
For the undergrad a BA or BS is the same regardless of whether you pay 3K a year or 50K a year for a year of college.
I am aware that college is more than just classes (the college experience).
