When will the City of Richmond start enforcing their own traffic laws?

VCU students flirt with death each and every day in this city by riding the wrong way on one-way streets, running stop signs and traffic lights, weaving in and out of traffic -- all of which behavior also puts the lives of motorists at risk as we frantically try to avoid running over these people.
I have to agree with Jake Helmboldt's point about how ridiculously easy it is to get the privilege to drive and keep it in this country. It should be much easier to lose that privilege if you violate the law, and it should be a serious offense if you drive without a license.

As somebody else who lives in The Fan and who has also
negotiated numerous Wrongful Death claims with families of cycling victims, I cannot tell you how upset it makes me to see so many bike riders who seem completely oblivious to their need for reflective clothing, helmets, lights and other safety measures. I wish somebody with the cycling association would start a BIG, LOUD, SAFETY Campaign in this city because you need one.

While a little off topic but related, there is a very big issue within our courts system of "wealthier" people being able to buy their way out of harsher fines and sentences by hiring an attorney. Mr. Webb had 20 moving violations, granted some were for expired registrations and such, including 7 for speeding, 3 for reckless driving (speeding 20+ over limit) and 1 for reckless driving.

Motor vehicle drivers are bound by traffic laws (stop signs, speed limits, right of way, etc.) just like bikes. Yet I can't remember the last time I saw one obeying them.

Prison isn't the right way to deal with most criminals, and in this case it's not right at all to take somebody who can still contribute to society and put them away (same goes for most drug offenders and non violent crimes.) I feel the best thing would be for Webb to never be allowed to drive a car again.
