<![CDATA[Years ago, Oregon Hill residents tried to interest City and VCU in putting a fire station on Belvidere, on the block just south of Cary and north of 195/Canal/Cumberland. It could have replaced the Canal Street fire station that was getting surrounded by new VCU development in Monroe Ward.

<![CDATA[Glad this art critique is appropriately placed in "Arts & Culture" -- I'm also glad that the best use of your time is to critique the architecture of new fire stations. Thanks for looking into the most basic parts of locating a public safety project such as, "Where are the 911 calls concentrated in this area?"

<![CDATA[the downtown master plan (yes, the one adopted by city council and the mayor) designates canoe run park as green space and recommends it be EXPANDED. this is just another example of the city making poor decisions that fly in the face of their own planning documents.

<![CDATA[Actually, the City's Fire Chief, Robert Creecy did try to locate the new fire house in an area that "would have advanced the renewal of this partially frayed part of town." As a consultant working with the RRHA on a Redevelopment Plan for the Swansboro Neighborhood, I met with Chief Creecy to discuss the use of an old grocery store property on 20th Street between Hull and Bainbridge, and accompanied him on a tour of the property.

<![CDATA[I could not agree with southbank more. Semmes Ave provides great access for a fire station in that area and I did not find Canoe Run to be attractive from that vantage point (it is from Riverside Dr).

<![CDATA[I mean this in the most nonoffensive way, but you're basic precept is full of crap. Semmes is an odd sweep of boulevard, mostly used by commuters who are trying to avoid paying tolls.
