WASHINGTON, DC -- As more and more Americans express alarm at the curtailment of rights and privacy and the increasing numbers of citizens locked up in prison, Green Party candidates and leaders are calling for rational security, law enforcement, and justice system policies.

"The US cannot be called a 'free country' as long as Prison Nation and Police State abuses are allowed to continue," said Darryl! Moch, co-chair of the Green Party of the United States.

I'd like to commend M. Scharf and M. Williamson: This was a very well written critique on the events of a peaceful demonstration. Whether the intent was to be arrested or not (re: Jeff E), the amount of state funded resources that went into arresting the protesters was over the top -- and this in a time of extreme budget cuts?

There is enough history of extreme violence committed by both sides of the pro-life/pro-choice issue to warrant the police dressing to protect themselves from what might happen at a protest. You miss the point that the girl in the photograph was also being protected by the police.

Sure, just enter the gas chamber and you won't be shot. Just kowtow to every infringement on what used to be our rights and we can trust that the authoritarians will stop at some reasonable plateau of power and start serving the people who have been cowed into silence, right?
