In 2003, The Carpenter Center for the Performing Arts Inc. published a lovely paperback titled "Linin Up at the Loew's 75 Years of Entertaining Richmond". Corrine Pellegrin Hudgins wrote an extended article that chronicled the historic facility's many highlights.

What's really sad is that Center Stage supporters are now screwing up the concept of an arts district, walking over grassroots efforts.

      B.Accurate is splitting hairs.

Regardless of the corporate entities involved, the fact is that public money continues to be wasted on an opera house for the rich, with little sign of a return on that investment.

This sentence also stands out: the governing agreement between the city and the CenterStage Foundation shields the venue from city oversight as well as Freedom of Information Act requests.

Incumbent City Council members, especially the ones who voted in favor of this fiasco, should be challenged on it.

So, in the magazine, this article is under "Street Talk", but maybe Style should create a follow-up section called "Fact Check"... and I would recommend not having Don Harrison write this new section...

First off, CenterStage does not run, operate, or receive any proceeds from the Carpenter Theatre. The Carpenter Theatre is run by SMG, in which CenterStage is merely the parent company.

Secondly, CenterStage does not receive a single dime from the city.
