In case anyone has forgotten what the Occupy protests were at least supposed to be partly about, here is a very revealing article on the bank bailouts.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-11-28/s…

excerpts:

On Nov. 26, 2008, then-Bank of America (BAC) Corp. Chief Executive Officer Kenneth D. Lewis wrote to shareholders that he headed “one of the strongest and most stable major banks in the world.” He didn’t say that his Charlotte, North Carolina-based firm owed the central bank $86 billion that day.
…

JPMorgan Chase & Co. CEO Jamie Dimon told shareholders in a March 26, 2010, letter that his bank used the Fed’s Term Auction Facility “at the request of the Federal Reserve to help motivate others to use the system.” He didn’t say that the New York-based bank’s total TAF borrowings were almost twice its cash holdings or that its peak borrowing of $48 billion on Feb. 26, 2009, came more than a year after the program’s creation.
…

Lawmakers knew none of this.
They had no clue that one bank, New York-based Morgan Stanley (MS), took $107 billion in Fed loans in September 2008, enough to pay off one-tenth of the country’s delinquent mortgages. The firm’s peak borrowing occurred the same day Congress rejected the proposed TARP bill, triggering the biggest point drop ever in the Dow Jones Industrial Average.

      Ms. Chara,
First, I agree with most of what you have posted, however beginning from your last statement, I am confused as to how you consider my statements "racist". If by chance you are referring to my use of the word "hood", I would like inform you that several of my neighbors as well as myself, refer to my neighborhood as the "hood", and my neighborhood is 100% white.

Glen Allen - There is a difference b/t speaking freely and violating ordinances (camping out in public parks after dark and essentially being squattors). Waving the banner of free speech isn't a ticket to just camp out in public areas that prohibit it.

      Sandy,
While I may not fully understand exactly what the Occupiers want the City of Richmond to do, they do have a right to speak freely, as we all do. Freedom of speech is not limited to only those that own property, pay taxes, have jobs, or even live in the community.

Why are they still even being covered? This is a small group is only getting coverage because Mr. Boone has so gracioulsy (i.e. for his own public exploits) given them free use of loafing on his lawn to harrass his neighbor (i.e. the mayor and the rest of the neighborhood that wants them gone).

Although the extra police protection has been unnecessary to date (I was in the March on November 9 and have attended other Occupy Richmond events as well), I personally am OK with this tax money going to the local police --- a large part of the 99%, rather than into the pockets of politicians and their business partners. For those of you who aren't aware....a number of the police are themselves Occupiers: http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Occupy-Po…

For this reason, I say this is money well spent!
