Thank you for this story Melissa. I agree with many of the positive opinions here, I love to just browse and buy what ends up in my hands sometimes.

Jimmy, I agree: focus on the special vinyl market for the niche customers. What about putting a coffee/muffin bar in the shop so people can buy coffe while they hang out?

I won't buy Amazon nomatter how much cheaper it is- I'm not wealthy by any means but I'd rather spend what little I have at Fountain Bookstore, Chop Suey, and Plan 9.

Sure, it costs more but I'd rather buy from a live body, get a signed book, have a chat. I buy local unless there is no other way to do it.

Try it.

Ben - just to be clear, CDs have about a 10 to 1 bit rate advantage over most digital downloads.

If it is convenience you are after, iTunes or whatever are perfectly sufficient for listening on your ipod or in your car.

If you want a full, robust audio experience and have a higher end home system (or an older one that may have been refered to as a "Hi-Fi", the quality of a cd is vastly superior.

The point is the same, though.

Tower Music, Borders, Books-a-Million -- here did they all go?

We should know.

I don't think Plan 9 needs a bigger selection of CDs. At this point, CDs seem more obsolete than vinyl, which Plan 9 has done a great job of offering.
