Turnstyle has for years and continues to host Guest DJs to spin without incident. However, any activity on the sidewalk (outdoor art display, coffee shop tables, live music, or DJs) impedes pedestrian traffic, which becomes a problem when the # of attendees swell from 2K to 5K.

Also, if the City can supply extra police to round up under-18s, then it can supply extra police to close Broad St. for exclusive pedestrian use.

If the city is willing to spend more money such as enforcing a curfew mandates, then it can close Broad St. and really allow Art Walk to grow organically.

Blaming under-18s and keeping the event closed to the region's art students want to be a part of the Richmond, is not the answer.

Rumor is that the Mayor has encouraged some businesses to have their DJ's play on the sidewalks to give the youths somewhere to go and be entertained. I remember when there was no amplified music and the crowd was interested in art, wine and good food.

THERE IS NOTHING HERE THAT SAYS FAMILIES CAN'T ATTEND THE EVENT. IT ENDS AT 9PM AND ANY KIDS ON THE STREET SHOULD LEAVE BY THEN.

"We want people, families, to move in to the city and stop fleeing to the suburbs and yet all our city government can do when a problem threatens Richmond’s most celebrated event is to cancel it and then impose a curfew?"
THERE IS NO MENTION OF CANCELING THE EVENT.

Quote: "At a Public Safety Committee meeting, Councilman Chris Hilbert requested that the city attorney explore ways to limit the event to adults, in part by expanding the existing curfew for people younger than 18, from 11 p.m. to 9 p.m. during the monthly art walk."

That's not exactly right. Hilbert asked the city attorney if a curfew was possible.
