It's unbelievable to me that one of, if not the most historic cities in this country (Richmond, VA), on undoubtedly the most historic river in this country (The James) and in the most centralized location on the East Coast, (roughly the midpoint of the longest North-South interstate in the country, I95, and the ONLY city near said midpoint to have TWO MAJOR intersections along that interstate, I64 and I85) is not one of, if not the most visited and highest grossing historic tourism cities in America!

Could someone, please, tell me WHY Richmond is not a tourism machine, but also a world class city with a huge economic engine? Why is it that only out-of-towners can see Richmond's potential?

Being a member of past future planning commissions, and a resident of Richmond since 1979, when I came here to attend VCU, I can give you my opinions.

Somehow making money off the misery that this war caused and the unresolved issues it left that still distort the national political scene, seems perverted.

Why can't we just memorialize the dead and celebrate that we finally ended slavery.
