Every organization on Broad Street hopes to see the entire area become thriving and lively. To that, I appreciate the author's calling attention to the fact that some of the businesses in this area are still struggling and I hope, by pointing them out, that they will see a bump in business over the rest of the holiday season.

However, we echo Christina and Katie in calling attention to the rest of the organizations and businesses that constitute the Broad Street area and that are thriving and ready to accommodate holiday shoppers.

Emily, Jolene and Erika
1708 Gallery

I find it highly ironic that the tagline for Style is "Richmond's ALTERNATIVE for news, arts, CULTURE and opinion" and then the author references Short Pump in her lead in? I think it's great that you give interns a chance to write, but I digress...

I have lived above 1708 Gallery for almost 4 years.

All the local businesses downtown he missed, (or ignored) wow. I think the author went downtown with a story already in mind and ignored the other shops and galleries just on Broad Street, not to mention all the other streets in the area.

Interesting article, but I'm disappointed to not read about the many other businesses on Broad Street that could have been included that do indeed offer a variety of shopping.

For the future, Broad Street is now home to the cool new Steady Sounds record store and the nonprofit thrift shop Books, Bikes and Beyond. Pibby's Bike shop is due to open on Broad in January, and will join other existing stores such as Richmond Camera, Nick's Market, Beads & Rocks, and the legendary Waller & Co. Jewelers.

Of course, if you're looking for unique shopping, Downtown's numerous galleries can't be overlooked since they feature one-of-a-kind art, crafts, jewelry, household items, toys, and so much more.

"You're not in Short Pump anymore"?

Really great lead-in to your biased uninformed article on an area that's come along way and is continuing to grow thanks to the hard work of the people who started businesses here.

I guess I'll stop supporting local businesses and head out there to Best Buy or Target and get everybody gift cards this year. Tis the season!
