Here's a thought- the courts decided what the flag means to people, but perhaps not all people agree. Perhaps those brave men and women who watch their best friends die while advancing the flag have a bit more of a vested interest in its importance, despite the ruling of several very old men and women from the Ivy League.

All those that blogged against HOAs and for Barfoot will think differently when they pay the current enormous prices for their first homes and then their next door neighbor paints his/her house fluorescent orange and plants the yard full of plastic pink flamingos.

There are MANY ways to display the American flag on your property that fit easily enough into any HOAs rules. If you choose to participate in something, first read the rules, and if you don't like them don't sign on the dotted line.

My Dad would be about Col. Barfoot's age and was a veteran of WWII.

I hate homeowner's associations, but have to agree that it was the Colonel who was out of line here.

But his actions in opposing the HOA didn't make him a hero - his actions in WWII did.
