First, an apology to Carol Wolf (and others, including the anonymous writer with the diaper issues) for not replying sooner.

Until this week, it really hadn't registered with me that comments on Back Page articles could be posted on the Style Weekly website. I'm still essentially a “print” guy, and I don't spend that much time online.

That said, I'm not sure what “clarification” I can offer for my March 23 piece.

To be sure, six years of serving on the Richmond School Board and 16 as an advocate for children and families with disabilities, has given me a frontline view of the challenges and many ethical dilemas facing our society.

We need to move beyond the all too common "Sophie's Choice" thinking that underpins Gray's essay.

Just what remark(s) in these comments put the bees in your bonnet and let loose this tirade of name-calling?

I can tell you that this rather insensitive remark from Mr. Gray: "When resources are limited, they must first be invested in those students who have the potential to become productive adults," has offended many parents and advocates of children with disabilities.
