Considering the fact that Charles and Ray Eames both passed away in the 1980's and their designs have remained consistent through the brands life the fiberglass, plastic resin chairs and the wire mesh chairs, I would say its hard to be "behind other cities". Same goes for Harry Bertoia.

The whole idea of a trickle down theory is for larger cities to influence the current landscape of trends and culture, and serve as an inspiration for others.

You wouldn't consider the art inside the VMFA to be behind the times, so nor can you consider the choice of a retro design statement that is simple to leave your eye focused on the food and art.

Now I love MCM design as much as the next gal, but I find it completely uncreative that a restaurant at an ART museum would just go on Design Within Reach's website and buy a bunch of Eames and Bertoia stuff. While that look might be different for Richmond it's at least three years behind other cities.

Any criticisms that should be posted, if any (seeing as how no one has anything to criticize since the restaurant isn't open yet), should be regarding his technique or menu concept, and surely free from language derived from personal vendettas.

Greg Haley is a joke. You're saying this is one of the "the most incredible destination restaurant I'd say on the East Coast" and they get a disciple of Michelle Williams.

Joshua - I partly agree with what you are saying. My excitement for this new place quickly waned when I read where the chef hailed from...a failed restaurant under new ownership and another restaurant that is known more for its bar scene than its food.
