      <![CDATA[The reason RPS keeps the IB program as small as it does is that the administration and the majority of school board members past and present resent the hell out of white people whose kids test better in the "achievement gap" than the impoverished black students. <br><br>This administration would rather spend $4 million-plus on CCP (the school for kids who keep getting in trouble with school and the law) than to build the school system.

      <![CDATA[Diversity issues aside, I hope the Governor's School will be a shining example of intelligence for the region and not only broadcast Obama's speech in its entirety, but also discuss the importance of Freedom of Speech and respecting the office of the President of the United States. Here's hoping the districts that send children there will not succumb to the tempation of playing partisan politics while our nation is in the midst of an educational and economic meltdown.

      <![CDATA[It occurred to me that people not affiliated with MW may not know some key details about the acceptance process, and those facts are important when discussing whether or not MW&apos;s policies are &ldquo;fair&rdquo;.<br><br>* Each of the 12 regions &ldquo;buys&rdquo;, or funds, some fixed number of spots for their students to attend Maggie Walker each year. So if a region funds 40 MW students, that region would send the money it would have spent on those 40 students to MW, to pay for their education there.<br><br>* When students are being ranked, or evaluated, for acceptance into MW, they are not all being ranked in one big pool.

      <![CDATA[Watching all of these comments, and driven to finally reply by a recent post, I have to say that I&apos;m seeing &ldquo;passion&rdquo; more than &ldquo;hostility&rdquo; though to be fair I can see some less-than-appropriate responses too.<br><br>What I see more is &ldquo;fear&rdquo;.       <![CDATA[No one is suggesting that students from subpar middle schools should , in your less than eloquent language, be "screwed for life."<br><br>Involved students, parents, and citizens have valid concerns about putting unqualified students in over their heads and about diminishing the current high quality education provided by MLWGS. Maggie Walker is the premier high school in the region, but not attending does not mean one is destined for failure in life (nor does attending guarantee success).

      <![CDATA[I&apos;d like to add my thoughts to the writer who commented on Dr. Fred Morton and his new role as director of MW, as it relates to this diversity article.
