In reading through the recent (and not so recent) articles, and reading the RPS web site as well as the City web site, it appears that the City is in charge of designing and building the new schools with only “education programming input" from RPS. The City appears to be managing the money and hiring the architects, contractors etc. I suspect this reason is because the City realizes that the School Board and possibly, RPS, are not capable of making decisions etc, necessary to move this project forward, perhaps for the reasons Former RPS Parent lists.

I doubt anyone on the past school boards and past RPS RPS administrations with a lick of common sense sense or intelligence actually read the Facility Master Plan until my former board member Carol Wolf started asking questions on behalf of constituents about why the schools were not ADA compliant.

In a guess to the earlier question regarding School Board Minutes, the lack of Board Minutes is probably due to the allegations that this School Board does very little, in other words, there is obviously nothing to report.
According to the RPS web site, a series of 4 “Special” meetings are scheduled for the month of December http://www.richmond.k12.va.us/schoolboardnew/index.htm to receive public comment regarding to Phase I of the new schools project.

Riddle me this: How is it that the Maggie Walker Governor's School could be renovated for $17 million and transformed into a state-of-the-art high school that has parents from 12 different localities competing to have their children attend, and the Mayor thinks it is necessary to spend upwards of $81 (at least) on building a brand-new high school that just happens to be in his neighborhood?

If the SB and RPS administration cannot do the jobs they were elected and/or hired to do, they need to be replaced by those who can.

Jones didn't do squat when he was on the SB and he brings no special knowledge to the situation at hand, except that he has a lot of friends looking for work.

This decision was made without data and already we see that the SB and the Mayor's office are telling the PH Charter School people that they will receive no help from them to make sure that school is ADA compliant.

With limited money and declining enrollment, building a high school that just happens to sit in the Mayor's neighborhood smells of patronage politics.
