Concerning drinks around town: Affordable wine list awards go to Helen's, Tarrant's, Edo's . (most expensive would be balliceaux, paid 11 dollars for a white wine glass pour that i know was only 2 ounces, said something to the waiter and they shrugged and walked away)
Best martini's awards go to: Acacia- (unique drinks and ingredients and different size ice cubes for different cocktails make a difference), Helen's- (waiter made me the best martini ive had in ages, some cosmo like pamagranete concoction) and Lemaire at the Jefferson hotel (innovative cocktail program had one with chili oil floating on top!)

Cafe Rustica - it's off the beaten path the menu is small but excellent, changes seasonally, and they always use fresh local ingredients the chef makes each dish a masterpiece of flavors (example - the cast-iron pan paella) the space is intimate the prices are extremely reasonable the wine list is good the owners have been around and in the business for many, many years. Cafe Rustica is like Mary Poppins - practically perfect in every way!

I think the beyond-Richmond style of Balliceaux makes it about the most individual and noteworthy restaurant in the city. On top of it being a totally cool place just to take a friend for a drink, the staff is friendly and without attitude, the food is wonderful, and the prices are more than fair.
