My initial intention was to write in response to the original article, however, after reading the responses to the article I had to stop at the article written by Patient Care. I was initially in agreement with you when you began to point out that there is no need to point fingers at the author of the article, however, the more I read, the more I see how hypocritical you are.

One possible outcome of increasing the FD's role in EMS would be to shift the burden of rapid response from the quasi-public RAA to the public FD. If the FD could guarantee a sub-4:00 BLS response time and a sub-9:00 ALS response time, the response time, and possibly the training level (ALS/BLS) for the RAA Ambulances could be relaxed.

Everytime Richmond Firefighters respond to a call, install a smoke detector, attend a community event, give a station tour, clean our station, cut the grass surrounding our firehouses &/or police grounds for trash, train, work out (as physical fitness is vital to our's & the citizen's survival), take a blood pressure by a citizen stopping in the station, assist a motorist with a broken down vehicle (had only one last shift I worked), or respond "non-emergency" to conduct a Home Safety Survey or other citizen concern, call up Dovi. Dovi's article failed to mention how often we respond &/or do the above.

      Dear Mr. Chris Dovi,
Your article entitled "Call to Action" simply doesn't make any sense as far as what the Fire Department's role throughout history has been? Fire Departments were originally established as "Ready for Action" assets.

While you mention that Richmond Ambulance crews tend to be "at the ready" and have far less downtime than a Richmond Fire Department crew, you have not mentioned the disparity in straight hours worked (compare the shift lengths) nor have you mentioned the astronomical turnover rate of employees in Richmond Ambulance versus the fairly consistent employment status of the majority of Richmond Fire employees.

Bravo to you for your Gotcha Journalism techniques, and for misrepresenting the truth because everyone knows that as long as the half-truth makes more waves than the full truth, it's better to tell the half-truth, am I right?

Thank you for besmirching the names of some of the greatest heroes of the city, who may very well save your life or property one day.

      To the author,

First off let me start by saying that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. However, when that opinion is projected onto thousands of people, with little to no factual information encompassing it, it becomes a problem.
