Re: “To the Reader: Nine Restaurant Reviews Pulled From Style Weekly

Thank god someone has the courage to address the vital issues facing our country like plagiarism of restaurant reviews. I feel safer now. Who will stand up and tackle the really difficult problems such as social media users posting copyrighted photos? Has our civil society totally collapsed into anarchy? I fear the worst.

Re: “Supreme Court Vacates Convictions of Former Gov. Bob McDonnell

Van's statement wasn't racist. He made an objective analysis of the facts. I'm Caucasian and agree with Van's comment. To rebut Van's conclusion means you support McDonnell's actions and motivations, and thus have a lower ethical standard than what the majority of citizens expect from their elected leaders. If all of this is acceptable to you, by all means enjoy the company of other like-minded evil white guys.

Tim Falen is the biggest thing to come out of Richmond since Elliot Yamin.

Re: “Jack Berry Declares Run for Mayor

Like PackFan, I too agree that we should measure our candidates by their record of accomplishments. Aside from the admittedly successful Richmond Folk Festival and ongoing 2nd Street Festival, what are Jack Berry's business accomplishments? Are the Venture Richmond events profitable, or merely concerts/parties subsidized by city taxpayer funds? If Jack Berry is a "businessman", why does Brown's Island (city property that Venture Richmond manages) sit empty every weekend when 10-15 years ago it was leased to outside promoters regularly to generate revenue? Does supporting the Shockoe stadium plan in the face of citizen rebuttal at multiple layers demonstrate vision or a self-serving agenda for a few parties at the expense of the citizens? Yes, this city sorely needs a mayor with business experience (not a preacher), but we need an independent business person with fiduciary ambitions.

Re: “Architecture Review: The VCU Children’s Pavilion Looms Over East Broad Street

Once again, Ed Slipek nails it 100%. Why isn't Ed on a Richmond planning commission or something similar? Ed Slipek for Richmond Mayor 2016!

Re: “Chief of Virginia DEQ Attended Master's Tournament on Dominion's Dime

If the water is "as clean if not cleaner than the water that is already there", then why does it need to be dumped in the James River? Think of the money you'll save on your water bill, EducatedOnThisTopic, if you and your family drink it.

Re: “City Reveals Maggie Walker Statue Plans

I still get confused about how "issues" such as this are conceived in Richmond in the first place. The consensus is that Maggie Walker is a prominent historical figure in Richmond. That said, why do we need a statue of her, and why at this location? A few blocks away her home is preserved by the National Park Service. To me, this is a greater honor with bigger implications than a monument that most citizens have no opinion on either way. Let the tree live...if for no other reason than Maggie Walker is already immortalized in many ways throughout Richmond.
