Re: “Most Targeted Business for Protesters

There are many reasons why these pipelines should be flatlined. The environmental impacts, the health and human toll and the myopic business model being footed by consumers are too vast to go into here. Once the pipeline is laid into this trench and the rock and soil are filled in, we will have a permanent underground dam that is at least 10 feet deep and 10 feet thick, extending across all of Augusta County and beyond. One can imagine what such an above-ground dam would do to our above-ground creeks and rivers. But imagine the effects of such a large underground dam on underground streams and springs! An underground dam of this magnitude will inevitably disrupt, block and disperse the flow of underground water in unpredictable ways with likely disastrous consequences. And then there's the fact that pipelines leak. Always.

"The collusion between corporations and the state has become so boorish - almost as if the communities standing in the way of these projects are viewed as little more than overburden. That demeaning word used to describe the waste earth or mountain that must be removed to access fossil fuels. Like the trees, soil, rocks and clay that industries machines scrape up, masticate and pile into great dying heaps. Democracy is getting torn into rubble too. Chewed up and tossed aside to make way for the bulldozers. We have a global energy model that values fossil fuels over clean air and water. WATER! Where all life begins and without which none can survive.

Re: “Update: Ken Cuccinelli Nominated for Virginia Supreme Court

this is a joke, right?

Cuccinelli is completely unqualified to serve on the Supreme Court of Virginia. He's a misogynist and has repeatedly manipulated the law and abused his position.

As a woman, I would be highly offended and afraid for my personal freedoms and basic rights if he was given this position.

Re: “Dominion Gets Approval to Dump Treated Coal Ash Wastewater in James River

If a foreign entity purposely contaminated our rivers, most would scream to Congress to bomb their home country. Heck, if the state of New York did it, we’ d probably scream something about Northern aggression….but when DOMINION does it? Do we call them what they are? DOMESTIC TERRORISTS? NO, we roll over.

Dominion, we know who you are. And who your lobbyists are. We talk about you when we see you at church, and wonder to each other how such upstanding members of our Sunday community can act with such casual disregard for humanity the rest of the week

We see you in the stands at our kids football games in the fall. We wonder how you can legally ignore property owners rights and endanger citizens water supplies in NELSON COUNTY and our JAMES RIVER with impunity? Great game by the way between Collegiate and St Christopher's, for us Cougars, anyway.

We talk about you at Ollies, and the Blue Goat, and in line at the concession stand at the UR basketball game Wednesday night (we beat LaSalle btw…GO SPIDERS!.) and hope your bonus checks help you to sleep at night. Because you are lovely people, and you are obviously very good at your jobs.

I’d like to remind the Water Control board of the DEQ’s Mission Statement:

The Department of Environmental Quality is here to protect and enhance Virginia's environment, and promotes the health and well-being of the citizens of the Commonwealth.

By the end of the decade, Virginians will enjoy cleaner water available for all uses, and improved air quality that supports communities and ecosystems. Pretty simple mandate…..

By granting a permit to Dominion Power, Robert Dunn, Lou Ann Jessee-Wallace, Joseph H. Nash, Thomas M. Branin, G. Nissa Dean and Heather Wood are culpable to a domestic terrorist attack – They're in league with domestic terrorists

Re: “Lines Drawn

Why should we sacrifice our land and water if fossil fuels should not be extracted in the first place? It's time to close, not expand the fossil fuel frontier. Specifically, we must stop making long term capital investments in new fossil fuel infrastructure which locks in dangerous emission levels for decades to come. The process of extracting natural gas releases incredible amounts of methane into the atmosphere, as well as polluting ground water. Before we can reasonably resolve the climate crisis, we have to stop making it worse. Nothing will improve until we get corporate money out of politics. Dominion Resources owns both sides of the isle of our General Assembly. Legislators are not working for we the people; they are puppets of their corporate masters.
