Re: “Cuts Both Ways”
CCrews: I've been saying the same thing about compulsory food service work for a long time. There's a local bar with uniforms that say "Server. Not servant." Perhaps if everyone had to work a few months in the industry, the shirts wouldn't be necessary.
The fact is, there does seem to be a prevalence of people who tend to treat those of us in the industry as second class citizens. We are not. We are craftspeople and artists. The customers who recognize this make putting up with the condescension worth it, but it does get to you. Most of us truly believe in what we do. And we work damn hard at it.
All I'm askin is for a lil R-E-S-P-E-C-T.
To those of you with the empathetic capacity to consider the physical and emotional strain of working in a restaurant, thank you. We notice. And we sincerely appreciate it.
