Re: “Richmond Grocery Aftershocks From the Martin's-Publix Deal

I'm transplanted from the Holy City to Palm Beach and I can tell you that Publix is the best thing next to Ukrop's.

Re: “City Explores Tax on Richmond Airbnb Rentals

Amen. Studies have shown how poorly Richmond compares to other Virginia cities in costs of government service delivery. Too many small businesses are moving to the counties to escape the exorbitant city taxes. Now, another tax!? Stifling! Dysfunctional.

Re: “To Jail and Back

I've been enjoying this saga from the 70's of Palm Beach - old white f__ts vs. swingin'-d__k iconoclast. Magnolia, my off-white iceless RR, would be available to trot him back to gaol after spending the day at the Repuppet House of Burgesses where the masters of ceremonies have been vainly trying to counter the press-effects of an essentially decent manGuv ordered to gaol after being brought down by his Jezebel, who proclaimed a Louisa-centered organism in a Bergdorf gown to her Rasputin.

Re: “The Iconic Mr. Smedley Returns to Richmond

Has anyone ever determined what happened to Mr. Smedley's trunk?

Re: “Isolated Beacon

Ah, I'm so relieved that Slipek has included his distaste for above-street crosswalks, even though one is (mercifully) not included in the Gateway project. Sort of like reading about the Romney dog on the roof of the family car in a Gail Collins (NYTimes) column after an absence of such a mention in several columns.

Re: “Lasting Romance

The Brown house is on Fishers Island, NY not nearby Block Island, RI - my bad.

Re: “Lasting Romance

Thanks for an amazing story long untold. Most of Neutra's houses are on the west coast, the Brown house on Block Island and the Rice house in Richmond being notable exceptions. Inger's tenacity paid off. Richmond is indeed fortunate architecturally and philanthropically as a result of her determination. I'm sorry that a railing has to impinge on the view of the river from the living room but certainly understand its necessity in a now-public space. I remember Inger, for a large dinner, placing a magnolia bough with bloom in the shallow water border of the terrace, a much more gentle deterrent than a hard railing.
