Wendy, women are not required by law to submit to an exam after a rape. She can agree to it.
Transvaginal ultrasound is not medically necessary in most early pregnancies to make the induced abortion safer. Of course there are some medical protocols already in place for when it is useful. And that is for physician and patient to determine - what risk and benefit the patient will accept, what medical benefit is to be gained.
Transvaginal ultrasound increases infection risk and this risk should not be added when it is avoidable when there is no benefit to the patient.
It should horrify you for legislators to barge into any examining room to determine if a cystoscopy or colonoscopy or other invasive exam is worth the risk and cost vs the benefit gained. It's an egregious interference in the medical decisions by untrained persons in arbitrary circumstances.
It's hideously noisy. I wouldn't want to live anywhere near it.
Re: “Perplexed Over Ultrasound Fury”
Also - cut it out with the "Republican" crap. I'm Republican. It's not Republicanism supporting this affront to liberty.
