Re: “Burning Down the House”
I, John Piersol, do resolve to not support the Firehouse Theatre Project in any way until the founding artistic director, Carol Piersol is reinstated as artistic director, pending the resignation of the responsible parties. I will not create work, nor attend a performance, nor encourage my friends or students to attend, nor donate to or in support of this space until this wrong has been righted. -- If you are an artist (supporter, ticket-buyer, donor, student, technician, et al) please join with us in posting this.
As and addendum, I realize that as Carol's son my refusal means little - this was made very apparent to me when I was removed from the FTP mailing list without requesting to be, and was personally blocked from making any comments on the FTP Facebook page - but i stand in solidarity with the artists, patrons, volunteers, and donors who are simply acting out of a clear sense of right and wrong, in many cases at the direct expense of their own paychecks. This is much bigger than my family, and that has been made abundantly clear by the Richmond theatre community's response. The same community, I might add, that FTP President Kay Holmes has the audacity to tell to "take a step back, [and] let the board do its work" in this very article.
