So we spent and promised millions for 8 years, 17 days a year, and a few hours a day based on attendance estimates that have nothing to do with actual attendance at other camps and a whimsically optomistic and self serving guess at what will be spent by attendees. There is no accountability for costs and no way to track income results. GO RICHMOND!
Re: “Redskins Camp Goes Over Budget, Council Members Angry”
City Taxpayer. You are absolutely right. In fact, there is not one case where an investment by a municipality in a sports scheme has ever had a financial benefit. Sports economists have documented this fact time and time again. The only way the financial model works is when a municipality pays a firm to do study that supports the results they want from the study. We had the same studies done for the baseball stadium and the bike race. No one needs a study to know what good roads, a performing school system, and strong infrastructure do for a city.
