Re: “Firehouse Director Ousted”
This is a deplorable state of affairs, to be sure. There are so many aspects of this drama that astound, but I would like to comment on some posts that state that a 15-person board for a 120-seat theatre is too many.
May I remind you that the three tennents of board membership are, "Give, get, or get off.".
I suggest that there is no correlation between seat count and the variety of expertises needed of a theatre company governing board - a not-for-profit arts organization and a school district are very different. And in comparing FTP to the VA Center, if anything, smaller organizations don't have the sheer mass/ momentum to weather times of lean funding that larger institutions with some public funding might have. So, with regards to fundraising, we might think more is better, if the board members have their eyes on the ball.
I admire Carol's grace in all this.
As well, the optimist in me looks for a just resolution in time for Christmas.
