Re: “The Power of Nice

From the point of view of an avid patron of Richmond theater since my wife and I retired here 10 years ago, I have come to regard Bruce Miller as the George Washington of it all. An almost universally loved (and in those few cases where he is not, admired and envied by those who recognize a genius of the founding father sort). Aside from admiration and respect (which even the British felt about the George Washington they were up against), Bruce Miller is creative, compassionate, clever, and giving beyond anyone's reasonable expectation of what a "mogul" in a highly competitive "business of art" could ever be. Bruce Miller's departure a year from now will be the functional equivalent of Washington's face falling off Mount Rushmore. It has been an honor to know him and to watch his work.

Re: “Colors of the Stage

As usual, Carol Piersol, together with the African American Repertory theater, is far ahead of the pack in "hitting the subject square on" with David Mamet's "Race." THIS bold, cutting edge, willingness to (as they say in the Nike ads) "just DO it," is the trademark of Carol Piersol.

Re: “Burning Down the House

We, Dennis Lieberman and Pat Vastano, as past attendees, season subscribers, donors, supporters, and enthusiastic promoters of the Firehouse Theatre Project, do resolve that we will continue suspending all of these activities until we can be assured by the Firehouse Theatre Project's founders that its leadership crisis has ended to their satisfaction and that their vision of its mission will be maintained. We further resolve that we will work with those founders and others in the community to obtain those ends. We entreat all other supporters of and contributors to the artistic and cultural enrichment of the greater Richmond community to join with us by making similar public pledges.

Re: “Firehouse Director Ousted

FROM THE "VALUES" SECTION OF THE FIREHOUSE THEATER PROJECT MISSION STATEMENT ADOPTED LAST YEAR BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS ON JANUARY 11, 2012:

"Firehouse Theatre Project values artistic expression through a multitude of presentational methods and will promote this freedom of expression through treating individuals and organizations professionally and with respect. Meaning what we say and saying what we mean; executing our responsibilities in any agreement completely and with organizational fortitude. Performing as good stewards of the contributions of time, talent and finances of our donors."

THIS from an organization that fires its ridiculously successful artistic director without notice, lies about the circumstances of the firing in its public statement on the matter, tries to coerce that individual into claiming it was her decision to retire, and now refuses to let the public provide feedback regarding this action on its Facebook page. I believe this kind of hypocrisy is worthy of a Firehouse boycott until Carol Piersol is reinstated and the Board is replaced.

Re: “Firehouse Director Ousted

Moments ago, I posted the following comment on the Firehouse Theater Project's Facebook page. They removed all previous comments from the theater community, and have taken away the option to share whatever you post on their page:

"Where have all the patron and theater community comments regarding the shameless dismissal of Carol Piersol gone? Have they been taken off this page? They are no longer visible. Is community feedback no longer important to this institution since Carol's departure?"
