Re: “Best Local Theater Company

Recall this #2 was based on a season designed by Carol Piersol, not the current FTP "folks." The current folks are certainly edgy, but not in such a good way. An opinion shared by many who find their actions, reprehensible.

Re: “Letter: In Firehouse Controversy, Time to Come Together

Principled yes, bullied yes, getting over the executive committee actions no,, and by the way post your name, board member you clearly were in the room, if you pushed the agenda, said you had fired hundreds, AD's were a dime a dozen or the public would move on who are you, are you nameless. I will never be good with what happened at the FTP board meetings, apparently you are and can be so without a name..............

Re: “Letter: In Firehouse Controversy, Time to Come Together

That is the issue, someone did stick a fork in them, right through the heart. Perhaps you would enjoy that happening to you or another family member or friend. Remember, you are entitled to an opinion, as are we all, but when someone comes to harm you, will anyone care? As for the productions at the theatre, the actors and productions maybe fine. I will not know, albeit I have not seen any rave reviews, as I will not return there either as a patron or supporter until the situation changes. It is refreshing to see that this did not just blow over, there are some principled people still out there.

Re: “The Hose Down

Now I wish I had seen the "Diary of a Madman" Thanks to Dave for this article, it does make a difference that people understand what happens when you forget about all else but your own ego.

Re: “Burning Down the House

I will be composing a letter to the editor and speaking with Mr. Griest who has wrestled with so many comments and facts and points of view, so many errors made by so many, I believe he has attempted to make a fair painting of this sad time in Richmond Theatre and the community in general and I do appreciate his efforts.

But to be fair,
I too was there and I am an adult with no ax to grind, influence or particular affluence and some of the material presented in the article is just off center.....
12/9 There was an emergency meeting called by telephone on the proceeding Saturday from the article "Board members raised questions about Mallory, saying that she was "confrontational, cold and short" in communication with them. Holmes then said new policies and procedures enacted by Mallory would lead to better oversight. Holmes and Kennedy said the problem was Piersol."
For the period time that I was in attendance ,about 4 hours, the discussion center more on the managing director's approach, lack of theatre experience and the need to work out the communication between all parties. Statements made painting consequences that are in question, would the fine grant writer leave, would the board have to pay back a substantial grant if, the managing director, hire that had been a "bit rough around the edges"(Kay's words not mine) not worked out was to leave?? More questions than answers.

12/9 from the article above "According to Vigeant, Kennedy said that Mallory couldn't work under the current conditions at the Firehouse. Kennedy also said she no longer wanted to become president of the board as long as Piersol was there, Vigeant says. Holmes disputes this, saying Kennedy didn't want to be a part of an organization that was moving backward managerially. Kennedy declined an interview for this story." Now why would someone decline an interview, who was so dedicated to the theatre?

Again to be more specific, Ms Kennedy stated she would not be "chair" if Carol were still an employee. Our bylaws do not call for a "chair" we have president, the position Ms. Kennedy felt she would become in July 2013, but only if Carol Piersol was not there.

Also stated was that the a recent substantial grant, which allowed for the hiring of a much needed managing director (Carol could hardly be expected to do both jobs forever, after all folks we are a non profit, we are not flush with cash, just wonderful supports and patrons) would "have to be paid back" by the board if Ms. Mallory were to leave.
I do not know the fact of this statement, and was given no factural answer or explanation to such a condition, as Ms. Mallory was not named in the grant, but it was used as a tool to push on some adgenda.

12/9 again from the article above " At the end of the meeting, the board agreed to see how a scheduled mediation between Piersol and Mallory went the next day. They set a two-month period to review Piersol's progress. But the mediation didn't go well, Holmes says "

I as a board member asked who would be involved in this "mediation" and then asked as a board memeber to attend. I did attend and left there understanding we had an agreement to complete reviews for both parties and review with each the following Friday 12/14. the next day Carol reached out to Gini in an email in essense, hopeful to work together.

12/12 again from the article "They basically ambushed us and canceled the seminar to push the vote," Vigeant says of the board's majority. "They had their minds made up."

Agreed, and to add to that the results of the 12/10 meeting and seen Carol's attempt to reach out, were met with the "we know better," and thus dispite Jim's efforts with some of our other board members to table this resolution, it was pushed on.

The building next door:
Also from the article "It's another example, some say, of an opportunity missed on Piersol's watch." Flat out just not accurate.

Quote from the article "I will regret for the rest of my life voting yes to that," Vigeant says.

And I would agree with this completely, I will never be right with this and will regret my allowing this to happen for the rest of my life.

I do know a few facts the local patrons, the donors, the theatre family of this fine city want the FTP back with Carol as the artistic director. This matter, dispite what some expressed, "will all just blow over" well I think not. NOT BlOWING OVER YET.
With all respect to Kay Holmes who I do believe made great efforts and family scarfices to organize the board and worked tirelessly with hands on, so place along the line the lines got blurred and the mission lost. Respectfully to all who have worked and supported the FTP Save the FTP, the mission must go on. Georgeann Jones Broth, Thank you all.
