Stuart. There will always be people that don't follow proper traffic safety laws, no matter what kind of vehicle they operate. The law-abiding members of the community shouldn't have to suffer because of the ones that break the law. It's not a matter of cyclist vs motorist. It's a matter of making the changes that can be made to accommodate all the people that use our roads in order to save lives. I also personally know several cyclists in the VCU area that have been issued citations by the RPD in the past few months. Your fellow motorist & "bad guy"....I mean "cyclist," Daniel.
Understandably, infrastructures take time and money. Richmond HAS to make it happen as quickly as possible...
It's a short time frame with which to work, & I applaud Dwight Jones for nailing it down. He's been in the VA Legislature for years, and has done amazing things for his constituents...(ala Hull and Semmes, Manchester, etc). Bike laws have been overlooked for political reasons for too many years. Now...2015 is happening...and its going to happen no matter what. The politicians on either side HAVE to make radical changes. There will be a global audience of 300 Million bike people looking at our city. Good work, Dwight! Pop in and see me some time. THIS is the year to make changes. A perfect storm of events. It's up to Richmond City, Hanover County & Chesterfield to get their s#!t together. In the long run, after the race, more lives will be saved.

Good to know that Virginia is no longer populated by criminals. It was starting to look like 19th Century Australia around here.
