Re: “Pedaling Forward

In addition to RideRichmond, there are other organizations that do group rides and clinics for new riders as well. RABA (Richmond Area Bike Association) has numerous rides every week (RABA.org), VCU has both a collegiate team AND cycling club for active students and alumni (find them on Facebook), Carytown Bikes does clinics/rides occasionally for new riders and 3Sports leads similar rides in conjunction with the Spin Mafia club. Other local teams include Altius, Richmond Velo Sport, Cutaway/3Sports, Team Carytown Bicycle Company, and Team Whole Foods. All of these teams and clubs are on Facebook and are a great resource if you're looking to learn more or take up the sport yourself!

Re: “Pedaling Forward

I for one am very excited about the 2015 Worlds coming to Richmond. I doubt many folks realize what a huge event this is in international cycling. It's not like this event is in a different US state every year... it's in a different city across the globe each year (last year was in Denmark, this year it's in the Netherlands), and the winner of the World Road Champs wears the winners uniform for the entire following year! This isn't just a medal that ends up in a display case: announcers in every race that the World Champion (male and female) competes in for the next year (including races like the Tour de France) will mention Richmond as the city where said champion won his title. There will be cycling fans and news media from all over the world here. A great chance for us to show off our city for a global audience. It's going to be really cool!!
