Re: “City Renews Push for Downtown Bus Hub”
Hold on a minute! GRTC continues to pursue huge expenditures and the public and the politicians seem to just be turning their heads. The thought process of "this will solve all our problems" is simply riddled with holes. Why isn't someone questioning the cost effectiveness and efficiency of GRTC and hold them accountable to operating under that unmbrella before spending millions of dollars on new facilities and new buses that are out-of-date before they roll off the assembly line? Have you ever watched the buses as they clog up the streets and corners, paying close attention to two very important things? 1. the bus route listed on the bus marque; 2. the # of riders on the each of the buses. If you do that, you'll soon discover that there are multiple buses, running in line, obviously not on schedule, along the same route, and generally there's not enough people on all the buses to even fill one. At times, I;ve seen 4, that's right 4 buses following each other on the 32 and the 6. It's simple, do a "production anaylsis" (of sorts) and you'll soon see the obvious solution to the problem....cut out the waste! A new "depot" won't resolve that issue! GRTC is allowed to be run just like some governments, wasteful, fraudently (at times) and certainly not held accountable! And why does GRTC management continue to buy new buses that are big, bulky, loud and diesel burning, oh, and have cushioney cloth seats with the GRTC logo printed on them..other transit companies, like HRT & the Metro don't operate that way or buy buses like that! Cut out all the nonsense and waste, just on the city routes, and you'd resolve the congestion issue and oh yeah, you might even be able to redirect some of the buses to the suburbs. That would resolve the issue of the buses not taking people to the heavily populated job and shopping areas, plus, it would keep some of the drivers employed. Hey, I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, but, if I can come up with that idea, what does say about who's running GRTC? not much!
