Actually JL a lot of what you say is true. Those protesters were willing to get arrested. At that point I think it became as much a First Amendment issue for them as any other issue that was felt at today's protest. We were being asked to disperse from the steps of the Capitol when we were peacefully assembling there. We pay the taxes that operate that building and it is the center of our state government. If a similar limit is placed on gun owners in this state you'll never hear the end of it and it won't last long because the gun lobbyists will pitch a fit. But the same erosion happens bit by bit to our fundamental right to assemble, discourse, and criticize: and we do nothing. It has to start somewhere, and one place it started was on the Capitol steps today. They were employing King style tactics and creating that nonviolent tension to highlight how out of whack the situation was. Do I agree with all of it? No. But I do see their point.
Re: “The Perfect Mayor”
This Saturday, we will be making history. Women's rights supporters of all ages, sexes, creeds and political affiliations will be joining, in every state, from California to Washington, from Hawaii to New Hampshire. Come out and join me locally right here in Richmond, in the Festival Park outside the Coliseum downtown: or find the event in your state. Come make history. Stop the hate and say enough is enough.
