Re: “Buddy's Is Saved”

I've never understood the appeal of this place. I've lived in Richmond for 16 years and I think I've been to Buddy's a total of three times.

The last time the lady bartender treated my girlfriend and I with a dissmissive attitude as though we were an annoying interruption to her gossiping with co-workers and the in-group regulars apparently posting here.

The menu was un-inspired, standard Fan-fare (pun intended w/ irony). Perhaps it appeals to some people, but I really can't get worked-up about being able to order tater-tots and ahi-tuna off the same menu.

The only reason I can imagine that would counter my previous negative experience and encourage me to come-out to Buddy's would be to see John-Michael, but I don't need to be at Buddy's to sit at John-Michael's bar, as he works elsewhere, too.

And after you've been to a dozen fan bars with the straight-bar on the left, booths on the right (left-over non-revenue generating space in the back) it looks like every other bar minus any character. Nor do I care Buddy's may have been among the first, inspiring the others. It needs to be re-invinted, or rather, re-born.

Standing in Buddy's I'm hit with the a sense of the familiar, the memory of a good, better time had someWHERE else. Let us please in the name of Darwin and Milton Friedman end the regulars' nostalgic lifesupport prolonging the inevitable and let the natural selection of the market economy take its course.
