Re: “The Scary Man Lady

"Easter Parade on Monument Avenue ( a Christian holiday)"

The origin of Easter is certainly a pagan one conscripted by early Christians to bring more followers into the fold just as Christmas is celebrated when it is due to the date of the Winter Solstice again, to make conversion to Christianity more palatable for the pagans of the time. The transit of Venus across the sun makes for an interesting astronomical spectacle and it is easy for reasoned persons to see how the disappearance of Venus, a planet long associated with life and rebirth, and it's subsequent reappearance (or resurrection if you will) was interpreted by early humans as having a divine significance.

I don't really equate dressing your dog up and wearing a funny hat (well maybe the funny hat part along with the pope) along with imbibing excessively and playing cornhole on someones front lawn with Christianity any more than I equate Easter with a man somehow coming back to life miraculously but if the protest did cause some sort of "shock value" as you state Wendy perhaps this has more to do with the misguided premise from which many "Christians" derive their understanding of Christian holidays and less to do with any Anarchists protesting.

Re: “City Council Meeting Degenerates Into Weird, Chaotic Mess

"Very grown up. Try to destroy the Easter Parade, which is a family event with a "hey look at me" mentality temper tantrum. Have you no dignity?"

Every time I go it just looks like a bunch of drunk frat boys in polo shirts and formerly attractive aging sorority girls boozing it up with fancy clothes on to hide the filthy reality behind their costumes. Family event it is not, at least, I hope no one in my family ends up that way.

Re: “LETTER: Baseball Over Schools?

Isaiah 53:6- We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Perhaps the mayor should reread his own book.

Re: “Independent Review of Ballpark Plan Looks Likely

This is awesome! I haven't even read this paper in a week and I read the comments and my name is thrown into the ring as being an alias on here! Actually it makes me feel special. Sniffle Sniffle. Now to the topic at hand, I think the mayor is wise enough to know that an independent analysis will give him sufficient political cover. If the facts bear out on the $$$$ than he moves forward, if not, we continue the debate.

As far as Dr. Nefario's post regarding my brand of logic, it's one defined by a critical analysis of the 100+ page Davenport report, an analysis based off incorrect real estate tax figures provided by the administration and an education in Public Administration including research on how TIF zones work and financing for these complex projects. Of course businesses within the zone support a plan where the tax dollars from every other citizen in the city are used to prop up this scheme to the detriment of services in other areas. It's not logic even, it's just an understanding of the mechanism, not too complicated really. I do appreciate how this thread is almost entirely about the "tone" of the debate and then accusations are hurled regarding who certain posters are and a completely unfounded claim is made referencing me. Let's you know your doing something right when people look at you as a target.

Re: “Action Plan

Pointing out that the mayor and his administration have put their reputations and public policy initiatives in clear display and promoted a stadium construction project (with questionable returns dependent upon currently undefined retailers who would occupy the 60 acre space on the BLVD) ahead of all else isn't a cheap shot, it's simple reality but maybe you felt it was undiplomatic, and I'd be inclined to agree, but this is Dwights' hot potato to handle now....and handle it he shall.
