"The fact that some kids thought rape was OK or that they didn’t know the difference between consensual and non-consensual sex I think is part of a broader problem. "
That was precisely my point. And I happen to believe that that broader problem is exacerbated by the mainstream media turning them into the victims, and that's why what individual people say on social media is significant- because it shows that that kind of thinking is being instilled at an individual level by regular people.
If you think it's "immoral, plain and simple," why is the crux of your argument that a person's life shouldn't be ruined as a consequence of committing it?
If your issue with rape is that you think it's "sexual amorality," you are part of the problem.
I'm still laughing at "having an anti-Ken Cuccinelli username makes you a Nazi".
I generally don't jump into the fray in comments on my own columns, but I just want to say that the idea that American feminists haven't addressed repression of women in the Middle East or the rape epidemic in India is, pardon my French, absolute bullshit. Sites like Jezebel have been covering the situation in India since before the mainstream media started. Turns out you CAN be angry about more than one thing at a time.
Edgar is clearly a scholar and a gentleman.
Re: “Cuccinelli Denied”
"The issue is whether the law should make it illegal for an adult to perform these acts on minors. "
No, it's not. Cuccinell was trying to preserve the law exactly as it was when it was thrown out, that is, outlawing any form of oral or anal sex between any two people, including consenting adults of any sex or marital status.
