Re: “Post Ralph White, James River Park System Still Seeks Leader

As someone who has volunteered with Nathan Burrell and Ralph White for years, been a member of several volunteer river groups and has also covered them as a journalist, I fully support Burrell to replace White. I think replacing Burrell's position as trails manager is almost as important as replacing White position and keeping as many of the JRPS workers as possible is the best way to help keep the JRPS well-maintained.

Re: “Hit, Run and Learn

I communicate often with all three of these excellent cycling advocates, and much of my opinion is in line with their thinking. I would like to see the Richmond Region get on board with supporting safer or improved routes at bottlenecks like this one. To get around CCV/UR heading east-west in Tuckahoe, a cyclist has to either go through the UR campus, up River Road or Patterson Avenue. Only the path through UR is somewhat safe, but it not promoted or explicitly encouraged. Patterson is a freeway with no shoulders, River Road is particularly narrow and obviously daunting for some to be safe. We need to make an official alternative route, even if it is just signage and educating people.

Re: “Gearing Up

Great reporting Ned and the quotes from Jakob Helmboldt at the end of the article sum up my feelings about cycling perfectly. - “I think Lanie helped remind people that a lot of cyclists are simply normal people wanting to use a bike as a healthy, low-cost, nonpolluting form of efficient transportation.”

Re: “White's Rapids

Thank you for this article. I've known Ralph White for about 10 years and known of his work for nearly a quarter of a century. As Zuegner said of White, his work is inspiring. While I'm not as concerned as White is in this article about the future of the James River Park in the hands of the City, as Ralph would say the park got to be the great natural green and blue space in the city because that's what the citizens worked for. Volunteers, organizations, corporations, riverrats -- all need to stay on top of the activities in the James River Park to ensure the legacy of Ralph White's 32 years of service do not go to waste.

Re: “River's Bend

Fantastic video and must have been a tremendous amount of time shooting the footage. Plus, editing Ralph's audio down to just 4:31! Nice work Briget.

Re: “Sandy Schmandy

Good post and I appreciate the relaxed tone. I would like to have seen a timestamp on his forecast (when did the conversation take place)?

Thank you for doing this. Chill RVA!
