Too often, when arts become business, the art gets lost. Firehouse has been a beacon while so many arts organizations have been co-opted by those with money connections but little, if any, understanding or appreciation for arts or the artistic process. Glad to see some people stand up to the bullies.
When the police jogged in wearing riot gear, I could not believe it... protecting the capitol from a peaceful group that included old ladies and young children. Then... the guys in green arrived... as if a clown car had unloaded. All the uniforms and gear looked brand new, and it struck me that it was probably very exciting for the "troops" to have a chance to wear it and play "war." They looked ridiculous. Many in among the protestors laughed out loud. Our tax dollars at work... REALLY?!?!
More and more are poor because of the skewed system that has evolved over the past 40 years. Feudal-system-creep has finally been recognized and called out... now that it has become firmly established. If those at the top of the heap don't develop a bit more morality and a bit less need for more and more "stuff," the torches and pitchforks may well come out.
Hens, fine. In fact, they're terrific (and so is their "poop" if you have a garden, and they eat lots of nasty insects). Roosters, not so much... unless you can train them to sleep until noon.
Re: “Burning Down the House”
We, Melinda and Ernest Skinner, longtime season subscribers and donors, hereby resolve not to support the Firehouse Theatre Project in any way until the founding artistic director, Carol Piersol, is reinstated as artistic director and this situation is resolved to her and the Richmond theatre community's satisfaction. We will not attend a performance, encourage others to attend or support the current space in person or through social media, volunteer, or donate to or in support of this space until this wrong has been righted.
