Re: “Crowded Out

Steadfast-way absurd. I have never had such a diverse set of chums and new friends in such absolute camaraderie. It doesn't get any better than that.

Re: “Crowded Out

I have been a patron of Mac's ever since he tended bar at what once circa early 90's "Shooters". Good times, good people from all walks of life and his warmth and good nature are why his regulars stay regulars...even though I relocated 10 years back I come in and always stop in to see him. After shooters he was a tiki bar main stay at Trademarks, then aquired what had been Shooters and his unique design and atmosphere was a serious step up. The food-amazing. Swingers became what it was by heart already. A fabulous Irish pub with friendly, diverse, fun people and a few unique traditions that set the pub apart. Made it "your" place. Mac has got to be one of the most dedicated, creative, genuinely good-hearted and amiable person-"owner" I have known in the Bottom. He isn't self-important and pompous. He is one of us...and we are loyal to the finest and most hospitable (funny and fun) bar in the bottom. No one fails to find welcome and he always finds a moment to come and say hello. 1994-2011 is more than loyalty to a barkeep. It's respect for his high standards and personal integrity. And Mac's is what the Bottom is all about. It's not just pushing your way through a crowded and impersonal assault of pushing, rude crowds and deafening noise in the hopes to actually getting one beer. It's a pub. And a fine one. As opposed to a loud meat-market that is nothing more than a money maker targeting the crude and immature element that is the antithesis of what Shockoe Bottom is all about. Neighborhood. Hospitality. Higher standards and some one who is not an egotistical opportunist, but a friend who loves this neighborhood and his patrons. He will remember what your cocktail of choice is and often by the time you belly up it's ready and waiting. Mac-you are what the Bottom is all about. I hate to see it degraded and turned into a opportunistic and obnoxious circus that is no longer safe-but a place where you might get your ass shot. We are Richmond and we aren't sell-outs and we won't let this area be turned into a rough and unruly scene by people who could care less about what it represents with out a damn hard fight.
