Re: “Teach for Richmond?

Much of the problem is the screwed up way that RPS schools operate. After teaching in HCPS, there's no way I'd want to work for the school system that is RPS. I'm sure there are some very dedicated & qualified teachers who are hanging on for the sake of their students. However, the mismanagement & poor decision making of the school board is a large part of what's keeping schools in a constant "come from behind" position.

Re: “Almost There

I will never frequent Off the Hookah for dinner again. My friends and I went for her birthday and I have nothing nice to say about the food or the service. First, we weren't told that there were any bar specials for happy hour. Since it was apparent that our waitress wasn't interested in getting any of us drinks in an expedient manner, we ventured to the bar ourselves. That's where we were told about the specials. Regarding the food, we were not told that every piece of our meal was going to be delivered separately. There were 12 - 15 people in our party and I mean it when I say that it was over 2 hours before most of the food came out. And yes, some food never made it to the table. There were so many different people bringing food out that no one had any idea what we had ordered, what we gotten, and what we still needed! Half of the time the "servers" had no idea what they were bringing out! Out of all of the food that was served, the only thing worth talking about that was good was some kind of vegetarian pizza. The sushi was not memorable in the least, plates of sliders were returned to the kitchen, food was cold, etc. THEN - to top off this whole experience, wine started leaking from the ceiling onto my friend's sweater!! After a while the waitress all but disappeared and we waited for almost an hour after asking for our check and a box for the pizza (which we had to go and get ourselves).

The one semi bright spot on an otherwise dingy experience was that the manager took 50% off of our entire bill. There was nothing about Off the Hookah that would entice me to come back. There are too many other restaurants in this area with delicious food, knowledgeable wait staff, and a great ambience.
