Re: “Richmond Food Community to Organize Benefits After Fire at Church Hill Bakery

The owners lived above the restaurant, correct? There ia an online campaign to help here, too:…

Re: “Where's the Fire?

I could not agree with southbank more. Semmes Ave provides great access for a fire station in that area and I did not find Canoe Run to be attractive from that vantage point (it is from Riverside Dr). I would personally like to see us focus on something more pressing, like how Historic Richmond Foundation helped save the large house just west of The Commonwealth Club or more speculation of what Sauers may do with the Battleaxe shoe factory building or more specifics as to what The Black History Museum will do with the Leigh St Armory. I use our parks weekly, and I think green space is a great asset we need more of, but the area around Canoe Run Park is hardly lacking seeing as how it's next to The James River Park System. Let's focus on productive comments and not nitpick at a new fire station.

Re: “Depot Digs

"Let's face it, there's not a whole lot of economic opportunity or development that's occurring in Richmond right now" - Stephen McNally

Is Stephen McNally talking about the Richmond, VA I know? We have construction and redevelopment projects happening all over the city (Residences @ The John Marshall, The Links on The Canal Walk, Carytown Place, & too many apartment developments to name). Never mind that this property is right at The Fan and only 2 blocks from Carytown... Stephen needs to open his eyes.

Re: “Regional Ballpark Talks Splinter; But Who’s to Blame?

Chesterfield and Henrico like to point fingers at The City and I'm tired of reading how everything is one-sided. Yes, Mayor Wilder, past, and current administrations have made poor decisions, but I've yet to see the counties be team players on any regional issue, either. Look at our extreme lack of mass-transit outside of the city limits as exhibit one. Henrico has tens of millions available for the unnecessary Gayton Road Extension, but yet they cannot afford a bus line to Innsbrook or Short Pump? Yeah, right.

The new ballpark is yet another great example of where the counties do not want to contribute to a regional expense. We will live and die as a region, and we need to start acting like one.

Re: “Romney’s Caterer

Mr Napier's comments have zero to do with what President Obama said. Obama clearly said, and I'm paraphrasing here, 'We all contribute to each other's collective success by investing in infrastructure, public education, and critical services (police, fire, etc)." Obama was merely echoing what Elizabeth Warren said here:

Re: “Full On Feast

Andy H, I had a similar experience with Deco Ristorante at lunch last week. My pasta dish was essentially fancy spaghettios with nothing but marinara even though it was advertised as having 5 other ingredients. I was not expecting an Edo's Squid level of value, but for a $12 lunch entree I did expect a lot more taste.

On the plus side, my father had an absolutely amazing braised beef sandwich. The beef had the consistency of my grandmother's pot roast--it could not have been more perfectly cooked. The $9 sandwich came with a side salad whereas my $12 spaghettios didn't come with anything additional. The chef and staff clearly have a lot of potential, and I hope they pull through. The interior is very nicely done!
