Re: “REVIEW: Richmond Jazz Fest at Maymont

@Randy Johnston

One wonderful thing about online is its ability to be corrected. (Note: when you are complaining about the misspelling of someone's name it is always good to have the correct spelling yourself- it's Terri not Terry. If an entire city is reduced to sad, pitiful status by a typo- think of the damage it does to a mere individual. ;) )

There are any number of fine musicians that went unidentified in the piece. On guitar alone there was Marvin Sewell with Regina Carter and Brandon Ross with Cassandra Wilson. (Your playing with Lou Donaldson was fine- and the set was called out, which includes the other players in the compliment.) There were other Richmonders, notably Alvester Garnett, who was both excellent and not mentioned at all. And the great Terreon Gully, a one-time regular Richmond visitor, who played with Dianne Reeves.

The point of the story was a brief, after-action report with an invitation to others to add what they liked. It's a snapshot, not a yearbook. Your adept presence at the event, and your anger at the lack of acclaim afterwards- as well as other's reactions to it- are here noted in the permanent virtual record.

The downside of online comments is that they cannot be corrected after posting. Alas.

Re: “Theater Review: "The Taming of the Shrew"

This sounds like Cole Porter's "Kiss Me Kate" with standards instead of the original score.
