The Fan Free Clinic opened in the Fan District in 1968 as the state’s first free clinic. In the 1980s it was Virginia’s first free clinic to provide HIV and AIDS outreach. Today, from its facilities at 1010 N. Thompson St., and with the mantra of reaching the “least served,” it concentrates on women’s health issues and the prevention of transmittable diseases.
