Tobacco companies may be hunting for the magic alternative — like the e-cigarette — but there will always be smokers. And the maker of Marlboro, Richmond-based Altria Group, owns half of that market. Barrington is only 15 months into his job as chairman and chief executive, but he marks two decades with the giant. Unlike his predecessor, he has longtime Richmond ties, extending to his previous role as partner at law firm Hunton & Williams. He serves on the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts’ board of trustees, and Altria regularly gives to arts and culture — from its $15,000 check for the Richmond Mural Project to its $10 million donation that turns the Landmark into the Altria Theater. But when it comes to charismatic leadership on local issues, Barrington has yet to emerge as a household name.
