Altria Group, the umbrella for Philip Morris USA, is pure Richmond. Great company, hugely profitable, adored on Wall Street and one of the most efficient manufacturers in the world. They make cigarettes, but so what? Michael Szymanczyk, chairman and chief executive of Altria, is the head honcho even though no one really sees him much in Richmond. So what? His company gives away millions every year. The next time somebody you know dies from lung cancer, just remember: We all benefit.
